Passion Led Us Here

Can you believe we have made it to the 4th of July?  It is so hard to believe that we have hit the mid-mark of summer already.   It has been a great summer so far for me, we have been busy, but it has been a good busy (I don't like to sit around) and I have had a chance to spend a lot of time with my family.  We have been getting those fair animals ready!  As my dad would always say - he loves working in the barn because the animals are always happy to see you and they never talk back!  :-)

This summer, I have been reflecting on last school year.  It was an amazing year and what we all made it through the last two years has been remarkable.  I honestly believe with our team, we can get through ANYTHING!  I have also been worried about how tired everyone seems to be.  I know that some days it was hard to put one step in front of the other.  I kept asking myself how I could help everyone re-unite their flame for this work that we do!

I came across this article by Trevor Muir (below).  He must have been reading my mind because the title of the article is Reunite Your Passion for Teaching After A Difficult Year!  One of the biggest things he talks about is remembering our purpose.  Just this week, I ran into a past student that really struggled while he was a student here.  He was so happy to see me and asked about school and all of his teachers and he looked so good.  The questions he asked made it clear that the experiences he had while in school at PC had positively impacted his life, even though his life was more than difficult.  He was one example of why I feel led to do this work.  Even though he is still working on developing his life goals, it felt as if the work we did made significant, positive impact on his life.  I feel that the field of education provides me a way to be a servant leader and  serve the community and people in ways that have a positive impact on their lives - it is truly my purpose!

I hope you can take a few minutes to remember your purpose.  Maybe you can think of a picture of a particular student or a feeling you get when you know you are doing work that matters.  Below you can find a link to the article as well.

I hope all of you get some important rest this summer!!!!

 *  Another great resource is Keep Indiana Learning.  There are many great articles and resources available to you!  (I watched a great video on how to use paraprofessionals in the classroom - but I can't find it!  I hope to share it with you later!)

Master Schedule:  The Master Schedule is coming along and so are student schedules.  We are mostly through everyone - still getting down to some of the details.  If you have questions/concerns, please let me know!  You will notice that Jill Little is down to be our school nurse.  Susan Huber is going to retire and Jill is going to change up her day a bit and fill that important role!  Thanks, Jill!

I would also like to welcome Rachel Gatwood to our team!  She is going to take Melissa Toothman's place in the Life Skills room as Melissa transitions to the elementary.  We are excited to have Rachel and her passion for youth!

Summer School:
We have around 30 students in summer school this year.  It has been going great.  Students are getting math and ELA from Ashley Hubert and Adam Stowe and then some CTE work with Josh Craney!  Annette Lawalin has been tremendous help as well!  This week, they spread mulch at Perry Childcare to help the community.  The students seem to really enjoy it - it is a great way to build relationships, academic skills and confidence for our students!

PLC Facilitator's Training:  Last week, Perry Central had 8 individuals attend the PLC Facilitator's Training at the SIEC.  We are excited about this new school year and how we can add some structure to our PLC time to make it more meaningful for learning!  We will kick-off our new view at the Back To School Retreat!

Summer Learning:

    * Dawn Lynch and Emma Bettag attended the Indiana Math Leadership Academy in Indianapolis put on by the CIESC.

*Dana Harris, Vanessa Johnson, Ty Guillaume, Tara Bishop and myself attended the Rural Early College Network Conference in early June

    * Carrie Rosebrock visited our English Department for their PLC training on June 16!

    * Carrie Guillaume and myself visited a vertical farming operation in Evansville!  She is excited to bring vertical farming to Perry Central this fall!!!

So much more learning to do!!!  Can't wait to get back together so we can all continue to share and grow!

Newly Weds:

Congratulations to Brennan and Emma for their summer weddings!  We are very excited to welcome your new spouses to our Commodore family!!
